Visitor essentials

Payments and public transport in mainland China.

A short preparation guide for overseas buyers arriving in Shenzhen or elsewhere in the Pearl River Delta.

Paying day to day

Alipay and WeChat Pay are widely used. Overseas visitors can register with a foreign or Chinese phone number and, where supported, link international bank cards. Bank cards and RMB cash remain options, but acceptance varies by merchant. It is sensible to set up a mobile payment app before travel and keep a backup card and some RMB cash. Foreign currency exchange is available at authorized counters and eligible ATMs. Source: Chinese Government visitor guide.

Trains and intercity travel

Foreign travelers can use passports for real-name railway ticketing. China's official 12306 English website or app supports identity verification and ticket purchase; payment options include supported foreign bank cards and mobile payment apps. Bring the original document used to book. Source: Chinese Government visitor guide · 12306 English.

Metro, taxis and ride-hailing

Metro and intercity rail can be efficient for city-to-city travel or exhibitions, while a car is often more practical for dispersed factories. Payment and ticketing methods vary by network and station; confirm the current local option on arrival. Ride-hailing can be arranged through supported apps, and I can help you compare the route with your meeting schedule.

How I help

I can explain payment options, assist with ticket arrangements and internet access setup, and handle a small payment only with your prior approval. Ticket fares, hotel bills, purchases and other third-party costs remain yours at actual cost.
